Come Join Us in 2022

The International Traveler's Club has had 3 successful student trips thus far and aims to enjoy another one in 2022. Our 4th adventure will take a group of students to Barcelona, France and Italy. We will get to see Barcelona, Provence, Cote D'Azur, Nice, Monaco, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Pompeii and the Island of Capri. For this trip we aim to take 10 students on a trip of a lifetime. Regardless of what classes these students have taken and studied some of these locations. There is no greater way to teach than to witness something first hand. It then changes from someone else's account through their eyes and ears to that individual person's views and beliefs. They now have a true connection to these places that no one can ever take away from them.

One of the main goals of this organization is to provide children in the Memphis community who normally do not get chances to see what else the world has to offer an opportunity to explore the world. This group puts students in circumstances that are outside their comfort zones (asking for/working for donations, flying on a plane, etc). The students who make it all the way through to the trip have sacrificed time, energy and sleep to get to their fundraising goals. As I tell them from the start, "This WILL be the hardest thing they have done in their lives so far but it will be the MOST rewarding."

The students that are selected to be a part of ITC have gone through a very selective process. They start by writing an essay which gives the group leaders a chance to get to know them better. They will describe a time when they had to commit to something and what they did to reach their goals. They describe any fears about this trip and provide a sample of their GPA or grades. Once that is complete they will get 2 letters of recommendations from teachers and complete an application form that has background information and a parent signature on it. A new requirement this year is that all students complete a fundraising plan. This gives both the group leaders as well as the traveler a chance to think through how they will raise money and the methods they will use to do it. The group leaders will then go through each plan and provide support as needed. The goal of ITC is for the families to pay as little out of pocket for this trip as possible but it requires a huge commit from each traveler and their families.
